AI video dubbing in your own voice, with lips that match
You already have the finished video: edited, branded, approved. AI video dubbing in IdClone replaces only the speech, so the same take plays in Spanish, German or Japanese with your own voice clone speaking and your lips following the new words. The cuts, b-roll, music and on-screen graphics stay exactly where they were.
Dubbing versus translating from scratch
Dubbing starts from a finished edit. IdClone separates your speech from music and sound effects, transcribes it, translates it, speaks it with your voice clone and puts it back on the original timeline. Lip sync then adjusts every shot where your face is visible. Shots without your face, such as screen recordings or product footage, simply get the new voice over.
That makes dubbing the right choice for videos that took real editing work: a polished product launch, a conference talk, a long course module with screen captures. If you are writing a new video, rendering it directly in several languages with the AI video translator is usually faster.
What happens to your video, step by step
Each dubbed version counts its length against your avatar video minutes.
- 1Upload the final export of a video in which you are the speaker
- 2IdClone splits the soundtrack into speech and background
- 3You review the transcript and fix any misheard words
- 4You review the translation for each target language and approve it
- 5Your voice clone speaks the approved text, timed to the original pauses
- 6Lip sync matches your mouth in every on-camera shot
- 7Background audio is mixed back in and the dubbed versions are ready to export
Keeping the timing right
Languages differ in length. A German sentence often runs longer than its English source, while Spanish can stretch too. IdClone shows a timing bar next to each translated line so you can see which ones overrun the original shot. Shorten the wording instead of speeding up the voice, and the result sounds like a natural take. The editor flags lines that are much longer than the original before you spend minutes on a render.
Where AI dubbing pays off
- Product launch videos that marketing edited for a week and wants live in five markets
- Recorded webinars and conference talks reused as evergreen content abroad
- Course modules with screen recordings, where only the narrator's voice and face change
- Customer support walkthroughs for the most common questions in each region
- Internal all hands recordings shared with offices that work in another language

The speaker has to be you
Dubbing uses your voice clone and lip sync, so the same rules apply as everywhere in IdClone. The speaker in the video must be you or a teammate with their own verified clone, built from their own invite with their own live check and consent phrase. Videos of other people, public figures, politicians or celebrities are not dubbed. No identity documents are uploaded or processed. Each dubbed export can carry content credentials metadata and a visible AI-generated label, which we recommend for dubbed material. See the consent and safety page for the full list.

Questions and answers
Is the background music kept when dubbing
Yes. Speech is separated from music and effects, and only the speech is replaced. The background is mixed back in under your new voice.
What if part of the video shows someone else speaking
Only speakers with their own verified clone in your workspace are dubbed. Sections with other speakers are left in the original language, and you can add translated captions there.
Can I dub only part of a video
Yes. Select the range on the timeline. Only the length you dub counts against your minutes.
How does dubbing differ from lip sync
Lip sync is one step of dubbing. The lip sync AI page covers using it on its own to correct a line in the same language.
Which file formats can I upload
Common video formats such as MP4 and MOV. Exports are 1080p on Starter and 1080p or 4K on Pro and above.
Put your finished video into another language
Paste the script or transcript of the video you want to dub and see how many minutes the versions would use. The voice part is explained on our page about voice cloning of your own voice, and the setup on how IdClone works.
